In order for the opera to move successfully, every single ticket sold will be specifically assigned to one of the three main characters in the show. Each audience member will follow that character for the entire performance, making, in effect, three audiences that weave through the hotel.
Since this opera is character-specific, we thought we’d get to know the cast a little more:
Scott Belluz | Countertenor
Scott Belluz studied at the University of Toronto and The Royal Academy of Music, UK. Additional studies took place at the Banff Centre for the Arts, The Britten-Pears School, and the Centre National D’artistes Lyriques in Marseille, France. Praised for his ‘warm, rich voice and impeccable coloratura,’ (La Marseillaise) Scott brings his committed artistry to repertoire ranging from 17th century to newly composed works.
Performances this season reflect his artistic versatility and include: Handel’s ‘Messiah’ with the Aradia Ensemble, a recital with the trio ‘Music in Common’ as part of the Stratford Festival’s Night Music series and ‘From the House of Mirth’ a music/dance/theatre collaboration with Coleman Lemieux and Compagnie, directed and choreographed by James Kudelka.
Scott Belluz has received great acclaim for his performances in the world premieres of numerous Canadian operatic works including: the title role in Omar Daniel’s The Shadow with Tapestry New Opera, L’Oiseau in Gilles Tremblay’s Opera Feerie with Chants Libres, Damien in R. Murray Schafer’s The Children’s Crusade with Soundstreams Canada, as well as Opera Briefs and Opera To Go with Tapestry New Opera.
