This is Ahash reporting from the Mammalian Diving Reflex’s temporary office at the Gladstone. I’m here to tell you about some of the activities that are taking place at the office. So far, as part of the Producers of Parkdale program, we’ve been doing a lot of workshops with people like Julian Sleath and Harold Mah from the City of Toronto’s Culture department and Sarah Roboyo-Sheridan, curator of Nuit Blanche and Director of Mercer Union Gallery.
The workshops came in handy for our own event, DARE NITE LOCKDOWN, happening August 10-11, 2012, which we are organizing here at the Gladstone. The event is part of Summerworks 2012 program. As of now, the ideas and themes of our event DARE NITE LOCKDOWN are coming together into a wonderful yet a horribly creepy event to produce an event completely different from anything else in the Gladstone.
Here are some of the events we are planning for:
Pizza Dinner: Scary Pizza Dinner where the PIZZA EATS YOU!
Ghost Stories: Not your regular campfire ghost stories. Bleeding ones.
Double Dog Scary Dares: You know the drill. Pick a dare out of a bleeding hat and do it.. if you dare.
The Astral Project: A sleep-along-seminar that will teach you how to have an out-of-body experience. We will leave our bodies and, if all goes well, travel to North Korea and, if not, Rob Ford’s shower.
Mourning Weiner Feast: Just like it sounds.
Our team is made up of nine teenagers: Dana Liu, Ahash Jeeva, Tenzin Chozin, Sanjay Ratnan, Isabel Ahat, Virginia Antonipillai, Nerupa Somasale, Kathy Vuu, Ngawang, Kiam Lam-Bellissimo, Tenzin Chosang, and a few adults. But it is mostly us (teenagers) who are doing the work. Well, kind of.
Part of the SummerWorks Festival, The Torontonians Dare Night Lockdown performance art/sleepover event takes place Aug. 10 7:00pm – Aug. 11 10:00am in the Ballroom.
