“I feel like a kid…”

Achim Zeman, an artist from Cologne Germany has taken over the main room on the second floor of the Gladstone Hotel

Achim likes to find out everything about the space he is working in. He analyzes the architecture, empathizes with it and begins to think and feel out a colored pattern which will create an illusion of movement.

He has covered the walls in a second skin that takes us into a different dimension.

Bright lime green squares burst off the walls and onto the ceiling altering our vision. I feel like a kid in one of those circus rooms where everything is tilted the optical illusion is powerful and I find my self feeling a little disoriented.

+ Really unusual funky hotel with bags of personality. The staff very really friendly and the bar next door has tonnes of atmosphere.
- Could be a bit noisy at night but earplugs are provided.

“L-O-V-E This Hotel!”

I was impressed by everything at the Gladstone! Where to begin… the service was amazing. We mentioned that we were interested in seeing a performance being held at the hotel unfortunately the hotel was sold out of tickets but the front desk staff went out of their way to find tickets for us at a local shop that was also selling tickets without us even having to ask. The room was very clean especially the shower (finally a hotel shower that I wasn’t afraid to step in). The bed , pillows and duvet were amazing! I cannot remember the last time that I slept so well. Parking was available right behind the hotel for $10 and we were able to buy a subway pass right at the hotel. We had breakfast at the hotel the next day and everything that we ordered was delicious (granola & yogurt, frittata, eggs). The burlesque show that we saw was very entertaining, and the karoke bar next door was also a lot of fun. We could have spent our entire stay at the hotel and we would not have been bored. I am looking forward to returning hopefully for a longer stay.

We stayed in the Tower Suite to celebrate our wedding! The staff was extremely gracious. Cowboy Hank was a most unique individual and shared many past experiences with us. The elevator was totally cool. The food was always great! Great, great hotel if you don’t want to stay at a cookie-cutter hotel. Very unique and hip! The front desk staff was extremely helpful!

The Gladstone is different from the big hotel chains so if you are fed up with the same old thing, check it out. We stayed in 2 different rooms (spent a night in Niagara Falls in between). Although they were the ‘larger’ rooms, with bath tub, they were both smaller than you might be used to but were really interesting and most importantly, the beds were great! Also the linen, pillows, towels- all high quality. There was adequate room for clothes, cases etc.
The hotel staff were excellent, cheerful and helpful. The restored elevator is a feature- yes (as someone else said) you have to call the lift… but thats true for any lift! The food was good- especially the coffee and the Queens West tea and the grilled cheese for breakfast was great. (walnut raisin bread, applejack cheese and apple) At weekends try the pancakes with caramelised apple!
On friday night there is karaoke in the Melody Bar- dont miss it! Saturday its Country Music…. but plenty of other venues near by if thats not your style.
