Maryam Karimi is an architect designer based in Toronto. She holds a masters degree in architecture from University of Waterloo. Her artistic exploration involves poetry, sculpture, media and sound installations. Through the course of her thesis she has built several pieces each focusing on different psychology of silence in relation to the political and authoritarian forces at play. Her installation “The Armor” has been recently exhibited at Cambridge Galleries.
Ya’el Santopinto is an architectural designer based in Toronto. She has worked and studied in Montreal, Berlin and Amsterdam, and her work has been exhibited at the Venice Architecture Biennale and the Fonderie Darling. Ya’el holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Toronto. Her recent work on alternative practice models includes the design and curation of Griffintown Interrupted, a design competition used as a platform for participation. Ya’el is the co-founder of Gauge Design.
Come Up To My Room (CUTMR) is the Gladstone Hotel’s annual alternative design event. CUTMR invites artists and designers to show us what goes on inside their heads. Coming together in dialogue and collaboration, participants are limited only by their imaginations, making CUTMR one of the most exciting shows in Toronto. January 24 – 27, 2013.
