The initial design of the chair was inspired by the Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron’s design for Beijing’s Olympic Stadium. A layering effect is created and the goal of creating a chair with dimension was achieved. The design of the chair called for a rustic look, natural wood, and a randomness in its appearance, to mimic the natural look of a bird’s nest. The material selection was important in the sense that it mimiced this idea. The plywood material used throughout the chair, was left unfinished, letting the rustic and nature inspired concept shine. Designed by Shannon Morrison as part of the Chair Prototypes: Digital Fabrication at Humber College ITAL project.
