Something we are all really (really) looking forward to around here is the pending production of Christina Zeidler and John Mitchell’s queer Romantic Comedy: Portrait of a Serial Monogamist (POASM).
About the project:
Set in Toronto, POASM tells the story of Elsie Neufeld, a 40 something television producer who is charming, successful and a complete mess when it comes to relationships. When Elsie breaks up with her long-standing girlfriend, she is forced to confront herself, the prospect of being single for the first time and the possibility that she broke up with the one she is meant to be with.
This trailer is meant to show off POASM’s desired look and feel. Although, it might seem like a finished film, it’s just a taste of what Christina and John have in mind. To make the POASM trailer a reel-ality an Indiegogo Campaign has been started in hopes of reaching the goal of $60 000.
We caught up with Christina Zeidler to find out some more about the inspiration, conception and hopeful future of POASM:
Gladstone Hotel (GH): Are there any films that have influenced you for this project?
Christina Zeidler (CZ): Yes, lots! Manhattan, Annie Hall, High Fidelity, John Hughes films, Swingers are some of them.
GH: How important was it for you to have the film set in Toronto?
CZ: Essential. Toronto acts as a character in the film as well as a metaphor for the main character.
GH: Will Ina Unt Ina or Mintz be making any appearances on the soundtrack? (Ina Unt Ina and Mintz are two of Christina’s musical projects. Ina Unt Ina is used in the trailer along with a song by Rae Spoon)
CZ: Maybe! I’ll have to convince John.
GH: Of all the Toronto-based lesbian romantic comedies, what will set yours apart. (Ha! What Toronto-based lesbian romantic comedies?!?!)
CZ: It’s got a really authentic feel. We’ve got fun characters who will be familiar to viewers regardless of their own communities. We think the scene in Toronto is unique and interesting and we’re excited to have the chance to show it off.
To help CZ and the POASM team make this film a feature, please head over to their Indiegogo Campaign and share some love (monogamous or otherwise).
