Tarek & John’s Jail Break Cabaret

November 9, 2013 @ 8:00 pm - 2:00 am

Friends from the Toronto arts and activist communities are inviting supporters to join together at the Gladstone Hotel on November 9th to celebrate John Greyson and Tarek Loubani’s release from Egyptian detention last month.

It will be a great night of:
Music / Campaign Videos / Hot Talks / Performances
with Avi Lewis presiding as our radical host.

The community response to the prison plight of John Greyson and Dr. Tarek Loubani was phenomenal, in size, creativity, and sustained commitment. As each day passed a swelling tide of petitioners, letter writers, protesters, and delegations voiced their concern over their detention — without charge — in a Cairo jail. Canadians, and people around the world, called for their release — and we succeeded! 56 days after their arrest — with 600 others — Tarek and John were finally home.

The Jail Break Cabaret will provide the opportunity for Tarek and John to thank the campaigners who helped spring them free. It will be an evening to rejoice in their release — and to honour the campaign. It will also be a time to reflect on those left behind, on the injustices that persist in our world and the creative possibilities for positive change.
