BOSSA TRES has been performing Bossa Nova and Brazilian Samba classics, as well as a variety of Brazilian rarities, Jazz Standards and Latin Jazz since 2003. BOSSA TRES’ repertoire draws from the greatest of the Brazilian composers and performers like Ary Barroso, Dorival Caymmi, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Newton Mendoça, João Gilberto, Chico Buarque and Caetano Veloso. They perform those compositions in the original Portuguese and Spanish versions. Their repertoire consists of music by great Latin artists like Beny More, Buenavista Social Club, Santana, Maria Greever.
BOSSA TRES consists of leader Victor Monvivais: vocalist, songwriter and guitar player who sings songs in their original native languages and plays acoustic guitar with the true Bossa, Jazz and Latin beats; bassist Abbey Sholzberg who plays a deep and mellow-toned bass and drummer/percussionist Federico Monsivais who plays with a soft, classical feel. The rarely heard hard-smooth Brazilian and Latin percussion of BOSSA TRES recreates the atmosphere of a quiet night in Copacabana… the mood of a Carnival in Bahia…a hot Tropicana session in La Habana, or the romance of a classical jazz evening. Bossa Tres’ performances bring life to the pieces they play, creating an aura of “alegria and saudade” which are the two basic ingredients of Brazilian music. They bring pure joy when they play Latin and invoke an indescribable mood when they do jazz standards. BOSSA TRES often appears as a quartet featuring talented guest musicians, such as guitarists John Farrell, Jószef Botos and Sameh Sharkawy, pianist Donald Quan, singer Rita Di Ghent, sax player Brendan Cassidy, violinist Aleksander Gajic.
Many have said that listening to BOSSA TRES is like being transported to a warm evening in Rio De Janeiro in the fifties.
