Literature and music have a long shared multifaceted history. Songs always have words and the best of literature sings with its own rhythms to its audience. So why not pair the two and make a beautiful sonic conversation together?
Take one poet, one author, one singer-songwriter-author, one spoken word artist and one rock musician, throw them together and see what happens. That’s the idea behind Words & Music, the world’s first literary rock band. Through an entertaining and thought-provoking mix of great music, engaging readings and lively conversation, the group celebrates and explores the connection between Music and Literature. How do these art forms influence each other? How do they influence the work of a group of artists, who approach the creative process in each form?
Words & Music features iconic Canadian poet and songwriter Robert Priest, singer-songwriter-author Dan Hill, slam poet Andrea Thompson, singer-songwriter Bryan Potvin (from The Northern Pikes) and best-selling author Chris Gudgeon. “Words & Music is a unique look at the world of the books we read, the poems that inspire us and the music the forms the soundtrack of our lives,” says founder Gudgeon.
