What is upArt?

Set within the context of Art Toronto week this off-site event showcases the diversity and vitality of contemporary installation art today. Produced annually by the Gladstone Hotel, this is not your traditional salon style art fair! upArt offers visitors a fully immersive experience of site-specific projects by local, national, and international artists. For this second incarnation of upArt, curators Barbara Gilbert and Chris Mitchell have introduced the theme Rooms of Wonder. Participants were invited to approach the second floor of the landmark Victorian hotel as a cabinet of curiosities. upArt 2009 brings together artists, curators, collectives, artist-run centres, galleries, and institutions who will transform ten individual rooms and the connecting public spaces. Discover a collection of installations that will amaze you, intrigue you, and re-ignite your sense of wonder.
