SKETCH is a community arts development initiative based in Toronto engaging young people homeless and on the margins, ages 15-29. SKETCH creates equitable opportunities for diverse young people to experience the transformative power of the arts; to develop their leadership and self-sufficiency; and to cultivate social and environmental change through the arts. We see a movement where young people, free from barriers, are celebrated and engaged as culture-makers, perception changers and collaborators in building creative community.
Some of our program offerings include community gardening and environmental arts; community kitchen and culinary arts; ceramics workshops; and arts marketing and exhibition support. SKETCH has previously done environmental art installations and workshops with Greenest Cities, HOPE Garden, Fort York Garden, Queen West Community Health Centres, Alpha Alternative School, Evergreen Brick Works and more.
Gladstone Grow Op: Exploring landscape and place, is a four-day event that celebrates innovative ideas and conceptual responses to landscape and place across a broad range of creative practices. Grow Op will explore new territories and uncover new ways of expression and meaning through projects that represent a wide range of approaches from the prosaic to the poetic, the elemental to the ephemeral.
