The Gladstone Hotel invites artists working in fibre-related media to submit proposals for installations and wall-hung works for the Gladstone’s fourth annual juried show of textile-based art.

Hard Twist – New Twist calls for work that sees textile through the lens of pop culture and uses cutting-edge technologies and contemporary media to reinvent textile traditions.

The show will run from Nov 6, 2009 to Jan 4, 2010 on the third and fourth floors of the hotel.

Hanging/Installation - Physical Criteria:

1. All pieces must be able to be hung/installed securely.
2. The security hardware supplied by the Gladstone is 2 ¼" x 1" (5.5cm x 1.5 cm), and needs a mount ¾" (1.5cm) thick to accommodate the screws.
3. Artists whose work is accepted for the show and the nature of whose work makes this type of hanger impractical or undesirable will be encouraged to discuss alternatives with the curators.

Admin fee: $150 + GST = $157.50 to be paid to hotel on acceptance

Entry checklist:
Please include the following in your submission:

1. Contact information including telephone number, full mailing address and email address.
2. Artist’s bio – max 75 wds – Word document
3. Artist’s statement – max 75 wds – Word document
4. Description of proposed work, including size, material and type (installation or wall-hung).
5. 3 – 5 images of representative work in jpg format – Please do not send website links
6. Digital Files may be sent as jpgs on a CD or as email attachments. Emailed image files should be no larger than 640 x 480 ppi (72 dpi) and must be numbered and named to correspond with the image list.
7. Numbered image list giving size of works, medium, dimensions and any other relevant details.

Submissions:

• There is no submission fee; the admin fee is only paid to hotel only on acceptance.
• The deadline is 31 May 2009
• Entries may be submitted by email or surface mail
