Ryerson Artspace is a student and faculty run gallery programmed by Ryerson University’s School of Image Arts that focuses on providing a venue for contemporary Canadian film, photography and digital artists. The gallery is located at the heart of Toronto’s art and design district inside The Gladstone Hotel on Queen Street West. For over twenty-four years we have been providing a unique and professional setting for thousands of emerging artists to showcase their work. This gallery space is rich with a lengthy history and provides an unparalleled opportunity for Ryerson students and Alumni to gain recognition in the Toronto arts community. The space is run by five student employees, co-op students and several volunteers.
Formerly known as the Ryerson Gallery, the space was renamed I·M·A Gallery in 2010 after the construction of the new Ryerson Imaging Centre located within the School of Image Arts on 50 Gould Street. The gallery moved to its new street level space in the Gladstone hotel in September 2014 and reclaimed our original name with Ryerson Artspace.
Robyn Cumming, Assistant Professor at Ryerson University, serves as faculty advisor and Gallery Director. The team of students are responsible for installation, fundraising, promotion, event planning, website design, and gallery operations. Approximately 200 students from photography, integrated digital and film are involved in yearly shows based on both course projects and independent work.
