Grow Op 2018
Exhibition Dates: April 18-22, 2018
Grow Op at Toronto’s Gladstone Hotel celebrates its sixth year in the spring of 2018 as an exhibition of art and design that cultivates ideas across a broad range of disciplines, examining how humans and other species live within and without natural systems of growth, change, abundance, scarcity, decay and life.
In 2018, we contemplate AFTER THE FLOOD. What lies beyond once the floodwaters recede? What emerges once the smoke clears? As cataclysmic climate events multiply in tandem with our species’ continuously expanding footprint, we are re-conceiving our relationships with the organic and inorganic world around us in unprecedented ways.
Grow Op 2018 seeks projects that explore the actions of humans in both collaborating, exploiting, nurturing, sowing, stripping and growing among our fellow species, our soil, our waters, our neighbourhoods, our cities.
The Gladstone invites a diversity of projects from collaborative teams, collectives and individuals that engage with landscape, species and habitat through installation, sculpture, performance, digital media and more to create a provocative experiential exhibition.
Projects engage participants through sight, touch, sound, and taste to create a landscape of immersive experience. Interdisciplinary collaborations are encouraged, combining creative practitioners such as: artists, biologists, historians, anthropologists, musicians, botanists, architects, poets, craftspeople, chefs, geographers, filmmakers, ecologists, performers, landscape architects, writers, planners, agriculturalists and more.
