P.U.P CONTEMPORARY presents
Superfluous Appetites by Justin Labine and Gideon Näf
@ Gladstone Hotel, Studio 208, November 3 – 30, 2016. 12-5 daily
Opening reception on Thursday November 3, 7-10PM
Gideon Näf and Justin Labine have been creating collaboratively in Toronto’s west end at Free North Press since 2008. Free North Press is a shared printmaking studio where both artists work individually and with guest artists on a variety of print based endeavours. Work ranges from editions of relief prints and etchings to workshops and commercial letterpress production.
For this exhibition the duo has teamed up to present a survey of illustrative prints and drawings from the past three years. Whether in Justin’s sprawling historically influenced drawings or Gideon’s dream inspired, tongue and cheek compositions; the pair use both the content of their imagery and the very essence of hand crafted work to present a critical response to the mania that is modern life. We invite you to take a bite.
P.U.P Contemporary (Pop Up Projects Contemporary) is a gallery with geographical flexibility being featured in the Gladstone Hotel during November. Founded in 2012, P.U.P Contemporary “pops up” in temporary spaces around the city as artist and gallery needs dictate. P.U.P Contemporary exhibits art works in all disciplines including painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture installation, and integrated media.
