Limited Edition | Portrait Photography Show by Yannick Anton

Gladstone Hotel, 2nd Floor Gallery
Exhibition Date(s): May 3rd – June 2nd, 2018 (12-5pm Daily)
OPENING: Thurs. May 10th, 7-10pm
The Family Portrait is a privilege of which we have long since forgotten. The portrait, in general, was once, very much, a sign of wealth and privilege. So much so that many (immigrant) people of colour, LGBTQQIP2SAA and intersectional were neglected and thus, neglecting in positive representation, even as of late. This, in numerous ways, is an extension of a many-tiered act of several cultural genocides and historical misrepresentation through media or, how we come to know of and about a people. If we are not seen, who are we? If we are not seen, did we exist? If we are misrepresented, what is our true story? A photo, in this sense, is a declaration. Oftentimes the aforementioned, were only captured negatively – like animals or specimens. And so, in the case of this show, I aim to represent the historically underrepresented. I aim to give power back to the family, in all of its many variation and glory. We are here. And we will be seen.
