OK, first the bad news: Noa Bronstein, our Director of Exhibitions is leaving us until December 9th!
OK, now the good news: she’s going to Banff to participate in the Banff Centre Artist in Residence program. Under the Banff Centre theme ‘The Decapitate Museum’ Noa has proposed her project ‘just present past house’. She will be creating an installation rooted in the idea of the heritage museum/house.
Noa’s ‘just present past house’ will weave mundane objects and supposed personal keepsakes into a domestic mise-en-scène of a fictitious individual. By doing so, Noa will explore the arbitrary delineation between ‘contemporary’ and ‘historical’ that informs many cultural institutions. Since heritage houses often present re-creations as authentic, Noa’s purely artificial collage will provide dialogue around this practice as well as a platform to explore David Hickey’s concept of real/fake VS fake/real.
OK, there’s even better news too: while Noa is in residence at the Banff Centre, she’ll be keeping us up to date on the Banff Artist in Residence projects happening around her via weekly blog posts Live From Banff.
OK, that’s all.
