Earlier in the month gang of creative local teens known as The Torontonians hosted their incredible SummerWorks sleepover performance art event: Dare Night Lockdown, in the Ballroom.
Having mentored The Torontonians throughout the year in arts management skills like branding, promotions, event management, and social media, we were especially proud of how the night turned out.
Darren O’Donnell, Artistic and Research Director for the Mammalian Diving Reflex and one of the key adult faces behind the event also shared his praise:
The event went really well. For the first time, we managed to attract a bunch of young people who we’ve never met. And, in an really surprising and cool twist, the event morphed into a very queer friendly place.
Most impressive, however, was the Gladstone’s attitude, which was about as respectful as I’ve ever seen any org dealing with that amount of young people. There was only good vibes and respect the whole time. You all made us all feel very welcome and not at all intrusive.
Thanks to The Torontonians, Mammalian Diving Reflex and Darren for making the mentorship such a success. It was a pleasure and honor for us to host such a respectful and professional group of artists and curators over the last 10 months. We especially admired the willingness of the group to learn and utilize new skills to produce such successful shows and events.
Big props everyone!
