Thank you for your interest in exhibiting or renting short-term studio space at the Gladstone Hotel!
The Gladstone is different from institutional or commercial galleries. We operate at the intersection of arts, hospitality and social change leveraging intersectional contemporary programs to explore the exponential power of many people of different disciplines coming together to collaborate and have conversations. We are committed to showcasing local artists and to empowering micro economies within the arts. Artists are welcome to sell their works to visitors; the Gladstone does not expect commission on these sales. As an art and design incubator, we are a place where new, emerging and established artists can try new things with the full support of curators, programmers and hotel staff. We offer a high level of support to artists.
Why you should participate:
- FOCUS – The Gladstone is focused on showcasing independent and emerging artists and designers with a range of sensibilities including political, commercial and strictly aesthetic perspectives.
- EXCLUSIVITY – The unique exhibition setting of the hotel, and the size, focus and mandate of our programs provides every participant with the opportunity to be prominently featured.
- ACCESSIBILITY – Participation costs for exhibitors are minimal compared to trade shows and more commercial events. Most exhibitions are free to the public with 7 day a week access.
- EXPOSURE – We work hard to support artists to draw audience and professional contacts via our networks within the professional arts, media and local and international community and provide access to our social media followers.
- SUPPORT – The Gladstone invests in hiring curators who provide thoughtful essays and didactic material to inform and engage audiences. Our staff team supports support exhibition planning, installation and technical consultation and marketing and promotions.
When you participate in our exhibitions and studio programs you become part of the Gladstone Hotel family. You will see your neighbours, your colleagues, and people you would like to meet, or you can be completely relaxed and on your own. We want to you to feel at home and be yourself. The Gladstone is a place for fun and taking chances!
Gladstone Produced Annual Exhibitions
If you are applying for Gladstone produced group exhibition please note that each of these exhibitions have separate deadlines and that you should submit separately to each exhibit, via the call on each exhibitions’ web page. To apply for one of our annual Gladstone produced juried exhibitions, you can browse below for a show that appeals to your talents or sign up to receive our Art News + Call for Submissions Newsletter!
We are always interested to explore new opportunities to partner. In order to properly evaluate any potential sponsored partnership, we require a written proposal describing the event and why you consider your event a good partner for the Gladstone; and a detailed guarantee of visibility in any catalogues or promotional material associated with the event.
If you would like to propose a partnership exhibition, please send a proposal of what you would like to do as well as preferred dates to Lee Petrie <firstname.lastname@example.org>. Exhibit proposals are reviewed quarterly and dates are typically set 4-8 months or longer in advance. We encourage you to come explore our public galleries which are open 12-5 daily to develop the vision for your show.
Our second floor multi-use space provides a unique setting for art exhibitions, opening receptions, conferences, wedding ceremonies, cocktail receptions and social events. The second floor can be rented as a whole or by the room. All exhibition rental spaces include gallery lighting, hanging system (depending on space), marketing support on our website event listings, promotion to our social media followers and cash bar service for receptions. As a full-service hospitality venue, we offer technical support, installation and catering for additional fees. To ensure alignment with our exhibitions mandate, rental opportunities are selected through our Exhibitions Director and from time to time through juries of invited arts professionals and curators.
The main Reception Gallery is an “L” shaped space featuring original architectural details including a beautiful Victorian balcony overlooking Queen St. West.
10 Flex Studios adjoin the Gallery and are ideal for photo shoots, conference breaks, meetings, pop-up shops, office space, interviews, presentations, or exhibition spaces.
If you are applying to rent our gallery to produce or curate an exhibition of your own design, please send a proposal of what you would like to do as well as preferred dates to email@example.com. Located on the 2nd Floor, our 10 Flex Studios are bright, renovated spaces perfect for meetings, workshops, pop-up events or temporary creative workspace to write, workshop your screenplay, hold auditions, draw, paint, collage, sculpt, sew, photograph a new body of work. Just bring your imagination.

Please review the exhibitor guidelines for the hotel carefully as we are a historic building and require that most works be installed using our hanging system. We also encourage you to propose site-specific interventions in our space and you can find floor plans and images of our spaces HERE.
