If a Friday ever rolls around and you’re not feeling super ca(t)sual, just imagine that you’re sandwiched in this amazing surprise cat-nap pile, and I promise you, will feel ca(t)sual again.
Metro Canada’s most widely read national paper has announced the Gladstone Hotel as one of the top 5 Art Hotels in the World.
Not only are the 37 rooms in Toronto’s artiest and oldest continuously-operating hotel design by artists, but the entire building is dedicated to art. A full-time curator organizes exhibitions in the four galleries, and the hotel hosts around 100 art events and exhibitions every year, as well as live performances, comedy, gigs, burlesque and creative courses.
More than 4,000 art lovers flock to the annual Come Up To My Room festival, when artists and designers display their works, with sculptures through the corridors, the guestrooms and generally imposing their presence on the hotel’s public spaces for four days.
A correction to the article above is that Come Up To My Room artists do not take over hotel guest rooms to install their work.

Yeah beautiful people, it’s POP KULT! time.
You could have as much fun as all these people if you want. Just come by the Ballroom this FRIDAY @ 10pm (or earlier if you want to avoid the line up), $10 advance and get ready to POP KULT!
This month POP KULT! is delving into the gritty, left-field disco of NYC based duo In Flagranti. Notorious crate diggers, Sasa and Alex’s production and tongue-in-cheek art direction channels the Italian cosmic scene from the late 70s and early 80s – the era from which they derive their hypnotic blend of italo-disco-afro-rock-funk
The result is a night that promises to take us on a darker, weirder, more honest journey through disco’s sleazier origins.
Having proved the amazingness of its urban bike-sharing model over the past year, Bixi is vamping up its presence and is seeking to expand their rental areas in Toronto.
Even better, they are asking for people to vote on where new stations should be added. Even better better is if you vote HERE you can help bring a Bixi Station to Queen and Dufferin. Yes right here in our own Queen West neighbourhood.
So come on neighbours let’s get Bixi on this hood!
Yes that’s right, pastrami + prawns!
OK, I know what you’re probably imagining. But don’t let the name fool you into think today’s pasta is some ultra foodie combination of smoked meat and prawns, this dish is very legit and very very tasty.
What’s really going on here is prawns poached in a pastrami stock then served over spaghetti with local, Chickabiddy Acres spring mix greens, olive oil & fresh herbs ($12).
While this dish might seem like a typical olive-oil based pasta, the addition of the pastrami-poached-prawns really works to create just the right amount of meatiness here. Perfectly soaking up the rich, smoky, salty hits of pastrami, I can’t imagine eating a non-pastrami’d prawn ever again.
Pulled together with fork-tender mixed greens from Chickabiddy Acres and masterfully prepared strands of delicate spaghetti, this is a plate of pasta I will drooling for all week.
