What’s it all about?
The textile industry has become one of the world’s most dangerous, polluting industries, destroying valuable farmland, water sources, and species that rely on these resources. In order to put a halt on these destructive cycles, it is essential that we, as inhabitants of the earth, learn how our consumption of textiles affects the earth. Even more important is for us to acquire the skills necessary to preserve our existing garments.
This workshop welcomes all to come to The Gladstone with their garments in need of repair. and learn how to fix them. Attendees will get an introduction to mending techniques in order to confidently repair holes in their own clothing and other fabric objects. They will also gain an understanding of how their textile consumption and use can impact the planet. We will cover some key hand stitches and approaches for patching and darning holes. Through meditative and mindful stitches, menders can connect with their clothing in personalized ways, and bring home garments that are unique to their own expressions of care.
