With 37 unique artist-design hotel rooms, the Gladstone has you covered for every mood and season. Now that the snow is falling & the festivities of the holidays are winding down, you might want to consider how to have the coziest possible vacation (or staycation, too!) before spring finally comes through.
Meet room 404: The Canadiana Room brings the feel of a classic Canadian cottage to both travellers looking for a local experience, and locals looking for a travel experience alike.
Designed by Charlene Gilmour, owner of The Big Stuff reapolsetry, and Architect Jenny Francis, Room 404 showcases work by local designers, painters, and photographers from floor to ceiling and wall to wall.
From the custom made curtains to the vintage Canadian bedside lamps, everything is distinctly designed to make guests feel nostalgic for the memory of a classic Canadian cottage.
There’s a lot of local flavour too. The back-lit photographs that accent the light bench and side tables feature some uniquely Toronto sights, including the railroad tracks leading up to the downtown core and a beautiful abstract shot of our city’s iconic streetcar wires.
Finally, the two main walls bookend the room with two perfect cottage moods. Above the bed is a mural of beautiful forest (and yes, the original photo was actually taken at the cottage!); on the other side, guests wake up to face authentic cedar panelling. Grab your hot chocolate and a good book, because this room has everything to bring the cozy cottage feel together right in downtown Toronto.
