At the Gladstone, no reason to celebrate is too small. Even magazines can have birthday parties–as Sophomore proved when they rang in the online publications one-year birthday in the Gladstone’s Ballroom (🎉 !)
Here are some highlights from the party and tips to bring your A-game when you blow out the candles and make a wish–whether it’s a bday party, product launch, wrap party, or special event to mark an even more special occasion!
Choose the right venue
Get the word out
Sophomore Magazine has a dedicated community who love to come together. If you’re just getting your big idea off the ground, a party is a great place to start. We throw a ton of events at the Gladstone and fill the Ballroom by following this formula.
3. Get Social
The first thing the ladies at Sophomore did was make a Facebook event, allowing them to connect with their online community and spread the word. Instagram and Twitter are also great tools to keep the conversation going leading up to the big day.
4. Consider selling tickets online
Sophomore sold tickets at the door, but a site like Eventbrite is a great way to get people to commit in advance, then tell their friends to buy their tickets too. It really only takes a couple people who’ve committed to help get the ball rolling.
5. Connect with the community
Sophomore raffled off prizes from some of their favourite collaborators including stores, artists etc. By getting a bunch of people and businesses involved, they had lots of help getting the word out–including us! The Gladstone’s marketing team will often help you promote your events through Facebook, Twitter, the website calendar and sometimes right here on the blog.
Good Music, People!
Sophomore Magazine had a killer playlist and their very own Editor At Large Stephanie Rotz DJ’ing the night! Promising good entertainment helps guarantee good times! Dance floor = fun.
