10 x 10 Photography Project
June 13 – August 18, 2019
Opening reception: Thursday June 20, 7-10pm
Pride exhibitions fill all three floors of galleries at the Gladstone, starting on June 13. We’re proud to present the tenth annual That’s So Gay, signature Gladstone exhibition, with the 10×10 Photography Project, now in its ninth year. While the two exhibitions are conceptually separate, they are united in featuring LGBTTI2QQ artists and the works intermingle with each other, across all three floors of the hotel.
The 10X10 Photography Project is an exhibition and publication that celebrates queer Canadians in the arts, curated by James Fowler. The exhibition features portraits of 100 LGBTQ Canadians in the arts by 10 queer Canadian photographers, and showcases the diversity, personality, and passion of our community on an international stage. The accompanying book of portraits, available for sale to the public, serves as an important documentation of the immense power and creativity of queerness.
‘People in the LGBTQ community have been major contributors to the arts and culture communities, celebrated for their creativity and artistic expressions, and quietly supporting through administration, education and philanthropy. While LGBTQ people are commended for their achievements and involvement, sometimes who they are is swept “into the closet”. With this portrait series, the Arts and LGBTQ communities come together, celebrating their separate and diverse identities as well as their interconnectedness.’ — 10×102019James Fowler, Curator
