Connect, from the series Beyond the Surface
Location: Studio 207
New for Come Up to My Room this year, the launch of a permanent installation by Safoura Zahedi in studio 207 that will be active for one year. Her installation manipulates light and reflection to create new spatial experiences. The immersive installation will exhibit during CUTMR and then transform into an artist designed meeting room with spectacular space available for private bookings!
Connect is part of an experimental design series entitled Beyond the Surface, exploring geometry and its potential as a contemporary universal design language. This visual dialogue unites the subtle and meaningful order of our universe by reflecting the unseen. These explorations adopt principles of fractal geometry and use two-dimensional patterns to create three-dimensional spatial experiences. The experimental designs seek to reflect the universal language of Unity as derived from multiplicity, and transport the viewer from immersion in the mundane to serene contemplation.
Safoura Zahedi is a Toronto-based designer fascinated with learning about the geometric structure of our universe. Her work translates geometry as a universal language of Unity, through a process of merging traditional analogue design methods with contemporary digital technology and fabrication. Safoura holds a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Interior Design and currently works on a range of local and international civic, cultural and institutional projects at a Toronto Architecture firm.
