Home and Away

Home and Away
March 28 – April 13, 2019
Third floor gallery

Home and Away is a look at personal photographs that document the migration stories of two Caribbean families. The images in Jamaica are oddly similar to the images of the family members who have migrated to Canada. These photographs give a sense of how those who migrated to Canada maintained certain guiding principles of keeping family and friends close as they built lives in a new place.

Often the migration narrative  is one of loss and a break in communities and traditions. This exhibition challenges that idea by looking at how some families’ photographers show us what remains and brings them together.

Home and Away is curated by MuseumOther, a collective of radical museum professionals from racialized communities who want to explore their own stories on this own terms and in their own way.
