Exhibition Launch: Thursday, March 8, 2018 7- 10 pm

“Now and Then” is a video-art exhibition developed by the RT Collective in collaboration with the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives (CLGA), Myseum of Toronto and the Gladstone Hotel.

For the exhibition 10 artists have spent time in the archives, researching and looking through its artifacts. “Now and Then” allows a handful of these artifacts and the histories attached to them to ‘depart’ the archives temporarily and be reflected on by contemporary artists, who will in turn have created new art works (new artifacts). By bringing a variety of historical and current perspectives together, the project aims to provoke different visions of our communities’ past experiences, present realities, and future possibilities.

As with all our programs we see “Now and Then” as a starting point for dialogue, rather than a definitive curatorial statement.

Participating Artists:

Aidan Cowling, Adriana Disman, Bretten Hannam, Emily Eymundson, Gein Wong, Kathleen Mullen, Mark Pariselli, Sammy Rawal, Mée Rose and Wy Joung Kou.

The RT Collective is a non-profit curatorial team dedicated to supporting the practice of Canadian independent media art by facilitating the creation and presentation of video work by LGBTQ artists using accessible technologies such as smartphones, iPads, webcams, and point-and-shoot cameras. Our programs have facilitated the creation of more than 100 new video works, many of which have gone on to be presented at other festivals and exhibitions.

The Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives (CLGA) is the largest independent LGBTQ+ archive in the world. It acquires, preserves and provides public access to materials on the history of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer communities in Canada and internationally. The collection includes: books, magazines, art works, posters, buttons, films, videos, audio recordings, and other artefacts.

Myseum of Toronto is your Toronto museum. Our engaging programs and experiences showcase the history, spaces, culture(s), architecture, and the people, that represent Toronto’s unique place in the world. Myseum brings a personal understanding and appreciation of all that is Toronto to both citizens and visitors.
